What I learned:
*
I learned how RAC works in Quebec in the cegep landscape. CERAC is financed by the Ministry and this is a key piece to its success. The presenters highlighted the importance of candidate stories, the importance of the nuances inherent in RAC and reasserted that it evaluates skills acquired outside the school context. It is very aligned with CAPLA's 9 RPL Guiding Principles. I like narrowing it down to three main principles. This simplifies things and helps with retention. There is deliberate and clear explanation of seeing RAC or education training as EQUAL. The pathway is different...not the learning and both should be recognized. RAC is already integrated into the cegeps...no need to contact multiple people. Admissibility determined on two levels...academic and extracurricular--The assessment is good...individual assignment, task in presence of evaluator, evaluation interview---aligns very much with direct/indirect evidence combinations I talk about. No failure!!! They can recommend a pathway and reregister. Gaps--no problem. I also like that the successful evaluation of competencies are recorded on the candidate's record. I like that they don't use exams...assessment is based on experiential learning. This supports my idea to move imagining RPL at course creation...not as an afterthought.
REQUIRED. Suggest 25 - 150 words
How I can use what I learned in my professional practice:
*
This will help me to present to government and others. To be able to show how it is working well in Quebec and how closely their work aligns with what we need or are already doing here in SK. I do wonder if this will help/hurt my hope to integrate RPL throughout all PSIs in SK including universities as the focus is on colleges. Bill 21 and the legal aspect regarding regulators was super helpful as here they are often the hardest to convince.
