Criteria

By the end of this training, learners will install solar photovoltaic components safely and accurately by preparing the worksite, securing racking structures, mounting photovoltaic modules, and adhering to safety protocols. 

The assessment for this microcredential will require learners to: 

Prepare the worksite for safe and efficient solar PV installation in accordance with project plans and safety protocols.

Install solar racking and mounting systems securely and accurately on various roof types or ground mounts.

Mount and secure photovoltaic modules to the racking system according to manufacturer specifications.

Support the placement and mechanical installation of electrical components under the supervision of a licensed electrician.

Adhere to safety protocols and quality assurance procedures throughout the installation process.

Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete installation tasks.

Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate with customers.

To develop competency, learners will explore:

• Site inspection techniques and safety hazard identification.

• Setup procedures for ladders, scaffolding, and fall protection systems.

• Reading and interpreting layout drawings and marking anchor points.

• Installation of flashing, mounts, rails, and racking systems.

• Safe handling and positioning of PV modules, wiring connections, and torqueing. 

• Installation of critter guards and alignment checks.

• Mounting of inverters, MLPEs, disconnects, and combiner boxes.

• Routing and securing conduit and cabling.

• Grounding and bonding procedures.

• PPE requirements and fall protection practices.

• Tool selection, operation, maintenance, and storage.

• Team communication, task coordination, and customer interaction.
