The CBU Project Management Fundamentals microcredential validates an earner's understanding of the formal processes involved in managing a project from start to finish as per the Project Management Institute's (PMI) PMBOK method. Participants engaged in an online learning experience that incorporated weekly presentations, discussions, and group work on a project management plan that required drafting a project initiation document (project charter), completing a work breakdown structure (WBS), and project schedule. An earner of this microcredential has demonstrated their competency in: 1. Developing a project charter, WBS, and a project schedule. 2. Drafting a project management plan and communicating this plan to project stakeholders. 3. Following a formal process of project management planning as per the PMI PMOK method.

Criteria

Earners of the Project Management Fundamentals microcredential have participated in 12 hours of synchronous online training with an experienced Project Management Professional (PMP) and have completed take-home activities over four weeks that required group collaboration to facilitate the application of course concepts and tasks. Earners have completed a summative assessment of the stated learning objectives by submitting a project management plan and presenting it to their peers. The project management plan required the creation of a project charter, a work breakdown structure, and project schedule.

Assessment Criteria:

  • Project Charter detailed the intended outcomes of the project and identified roles, budget, description, required resources, stakeholders, and potential risks.
  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) identified smaller, manageable tasks required of the intended project outcomes and who is responsible for them.
  • Project Schedule sets reasonable expectations for completion based on the project's budget, resources and other factors.
  • Project Management Plan was outlined and communicated to project stakeholders in a way that demonstrated an understanding of PMBOK concepts.
