Participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate permitted piping materials for ground heat exchangers (GHXs) from other site materials.
  • Identify common construction errors requiring correction before backfilling or submerging a GHX.
  • Identify correct grouting techniques and appropriate materials for boreholes.
  • Reference and apply the guidance of CSA/ANSI/IGSHPA C448 Series for trenching, backfilling, and compaction.
  • Locate and comply with local safety and regulatory requirements for trenching and drilling.
  • Inspect installation of pipe location tapes, wires, or devices per GHX design specifications.
  • Describe the correct steps to perform pressure testing of GHX systems and provide guidance for failed tests.
  • Explain steps for integrating exterior and interior piping systems at start-up, including interior piping flushing procedures.
