For case managers, writing is a primary means of communication. The learning content reviews critical aspects of effective writing, then focuses on specific case management tasks including case notes, emails and writing about barriers. The demonstration of competence requires the learner to pass two multiple-choice assessments, one evaluating knowledge of action planning and one evaluating core writing elements. Additionally, the learner must demonstrate skills in writing barrier descriptions through a written assignment.
Learners complete a series of self-paced courses and reflective activities including a self-assessment of their writing strengths and areas for improvement. Two 25-question multiple choice tests are embedded in the module and evaluate the learner's understanding of the material. The learner then completes a written assignment.
Two 25-question multiple choice tests evaluate the learner's understanding of the material. An 80% must be achieved to pass each test and continue with the module.
The written assignment demonstrates the learner's understanding and practice of case management writing skills. The learner chooses 5 barriers identified in a case study and writes complete barrier descriptions, which include the following from the case study:
Spelling and grammar are also assessed.
A trained, experienced instructor reviews the assignment and provides written feedback. Learners may be asked to resubmit if they do not meet the assignment criteria.
