In this microcredential students develop their UX writing toolkit and demonstrate the role each piece plays in writing accessible, accurate, inclusive and compelling content across a complex product experience. It explores how a UX writer works within standards, incorporates user insights into their process, meets requirements and presents their work. Upon successful completion of this microcredential, students are equipped to craft and present clear, inclusive and compelling copy for a digital product flow – adhering to guidelines, utilizing user insights, and meeting business and user goals.

Criteria

The recipient of this micro-credential has demonstrated the ability to:

  • Work with established design systems and style guidelines
  • Write, edit and proofread copy for user interfaces
  • Iterate content based on user testing and measurement
  • Map content against a user flow
  • Develop content according to accessibility, localization and internationalization guidelines
  • Present and articulate content recommendations

By providing:

  • Evidence of the ability to complete a writing challenge that tests the outlined skills and competencies and presenting their solution in a written case study. The student is provided with a user scenario that is mapped against an experience flow, a set of requirements and a style guide and is asked to write clear, inclusive and compelling content for every stage of a digital product flow. The student must present a detailed examination of their solution by writing a case study.

And by reflecting on the entire process by:

Preparing two reponses to typical interview questions, using the medium of their choice (written, audio, video). Some typical examples are:

  • How do you defend or justify your work?
  • What factors do you consider in your approach to UX writing?
  • How do you contribute to a successful user experience through your writing?
  • What is your method for understanding a company’s brand voice?
  • How do you test and/or validate your work?
  • What tools or processes help you to be more successful as a UX writer? Why?
  • How do you translate complex ideas into clear and compelling content?
