Accreditation in public relations is a voluntary certification program administered by the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) to recognize public relations practitioners who have the required depth of experience and competence in the professional practice of public relations. An accredited member is permitted to use the designation "APR" (Accredited in Public Relations) after his or her name.

The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) is an organization of professionals who practice public relations in Canada and abroad. Our members work to maintain the highest standards and to share a uniquely Canadian experience in public relations.

Fondée en 1948, La Société canadienne des relations publiques (SCRP) est un organisme regroupant des femmes et des hommes qui pratiquent les relations publiques au Canada et à l'étranger. Nos membres veillent à maintenir les normes professionnelles les plus élevées et à partager une expérience canadienne unique en matière de relations publiques.

Criteria

To seek accreditation, the practitioner must be a member in good standing with CPRS and have been employed full-time in a public relations position for a minimum of five years.

To become accredited requires:

  • Submission of a significant work sample
  • An oral exam
  • A proctored three-hour written exam (essay style)

The candidates are evaluated by panels of peer graders, who are themselves accredited senior practitioners.
