The holder of this credential is deemed to meet the combination of education, training and/or experience as per the GC Qualification Standard alternative for the IT Occupational Group.
Qualification Certificate
Fully qualified for an entry-level IT position (GC IT01 or equivalent)
A two-year structured program that combines on-the-job work experience (80%), and online training/professional development (20%).
Apprentices are partnered with a peer to facilitate job shadowing and supervised work, and they are assigned a mentor who provides experienced counsel and guidance over the course of the program.
Observed during the job and successfully completed all required training outlined in the IT Training Content section above. Some Apprentices may be fast-tracked trough selected training content based on the recognition of prior learning assessment.
Approximately 2,900 hours of on-the-job learning and 500 hours of online training/professional development.
The IT Apprenticeship Program for Indigenous Peoples is a Government of Canada initiative specifically for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. The Program was developed by, with, and for Indigenous Peoples from across Canada. It is a pathway to employment in the federal public service for Indigenous Peoples who have a passion for Information Technology (IT).
