Criteria

The recipient of this badge has demonstrated the ability to:

  • Identify and analyze a problem that needs to be solved. This involves researching and understanding the issues faced by various stakeholders, such as users, customers, employees, and other parties who are affected by the problem.
  • Once the problem has been identified, the participant needs to define the scope of the problem and prioritize the requirements that the solution must meet. This includes functional requirements (what the solution must do) and non-functional requirements (how the solution must perform).
  • Develop a functional system that includes a user interface, data organization, logic, processes, behaviours, security, and privacy to bring their vision to life.
  • Apply various approaches, tools, and strategies to model the system’s behaviour and structure effectively.
  • Produce a demonstrable solution in the form of a prototype, proof of concept, or mock-up that showcases the feasibility of their idea.
  • Effectively communicate their innovation to stakeholders and the judging panel using appropriate presentation and storytelling techniques.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical guidelines, including compliance with intellectual property rights, plagiarism policies, and the hackathon's code of conduct.

By providing evidence of the following:

  • Present their solution to industry partners and the judging panel (typically 10 minutes), explaining design choices, demonstrating how the solution works, and sharing key insights gained during the hackathon.
  • Use a version control system (such as GitHub) to manage and document all project artifacts, ensuring transparency and ease of valuation
  • To demonstrate the viability and effectiveness of their solution, participants should provide live code, prototypes, mock-ups, or use case stories that showcase the key features of their solution. This helps the judges and other participants better understand the solution and its potential impact.
  • The judging panel typically consists of topic experts who evaluate each project based on specific criteria, such as the viability of the solution (i.e., Does the solution address a real, meaningful problem?), the level of completion (i.e., How well-built is the product?), the quality of the presentation (i.e. How effectively does the team communicate their idea?), and the level of novelty (i.e., How original and creative is the solution?).
  • Active participation in event social media and collaboration with event organizers and team members.
