The Learning Inter-Professionally Healthcare Accelerator (LIPHA) for Long-Term Care is an immersive, virtual simulation and game-based learning experience that combines simulation-, case-, team- and story-based learning. LIPHA delivers curated, evidence-based education to accelerate learning and augment clinical placements in long-term care. Learners have the opportunity to safely explore, rehearse and receive instant feedback on self-paced, scaffolded learning activities.

The Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (Ontario CLRI) enhance quality of care and living for residents across the province. Our Learning Division develops, delivers and evaluates educational resources and programs to train the current and future long-term care (LTC) workforce.

Criteria

Upon successful completion of this course, learners earn a completion-based certificate and achieve the following learning outcomes:

  1. Identify elder abilities that can be used as a strength in care planning and ADLs.

  2. Learn about and apply foundational knowledge of specific conditions commonly encountered in long-term care settings and identify associated critical signs and symptoms.

  3. Apply compassionate communication strategies that acknowledge, reassure, and clarify needs and concerns.

  4. Integrate knowledge of the elder’s abilities and conditions with knowledge of best practices to optimally assist them in care planning and ADLs.

  • Oral Care, Bathing & Dressing

  • Aids & Assistive Devices

  • Mobility & Falls

Learning Experience(s) & Activities:

  • Choose your own adventure story (meta-narrative of healer’s journey)

  • 40 Simulacra (short skill building simulations)

  • 4 Simulations (full cases)

  • 35 eLearning Modules (varies between 5-30 minutes per module)

  • 35 Sensory Observation System (SOS) Acute Deterioration Game Sims

  • Plus one- or two-page resources, quizzes, mini-games, and other activities

Assessment: This is a Completion-Based Certificate with summative assessment (pre and post cases). Learners must achieve a passing score of 100% on each learning activity to successfully complete this course.
