Geospatial Analysis

Seneca Polytechnic is a multiple-campus public college located in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. It offers full-time and part-time programs at the baccalaureate, diploma, certificate and graduate levels.

The recipient of this micro-credential has demonstrated the ability to:

• Complete vector analysis using spatial analysis tools (such as buffer analysis, clip analysis, proximity analyses)
• Conduct raster analysis such as zonal statistics using desktop GIS software.
• Delineate watershed boundary using advanced modelling and DEM data
• Create tools using ModelBuilder that can be applied to address repetitive tasks.
• Use TIN, contours and LiDAR data to solve problems.
• Use relational database for vector data management.
• Apply appropriate data classification methods to different types of data sets and for different purposes.
• Perform simple image classification.
• Develop solutions using vector and raster analysis and present them in class.

A final assignment in which students will:

Come up with a problem to solve that requires vector and raster analysis and can be presented using ArcGIS online-based Story Map. The final project should include components of geoprocessing, vector, and raster using desktop GIS solution, utilize presentation platform such as ESRI’s Story map. The students will present the solution in class with a short presentation and will share the project files/links with the instructors for the evaluation of the project.
