Learning outcomes

Learning objectives include the following:

  • Section 2 – Explain requirements to create and maintain a safe working environment during an electrical installation.
  • Section 2 – Summarize how to determine that electrical equipment and devices to be installed are approved as suitable for use and marked accordingly.
  • Section 4 – Explain requirements for conductors for using wire and cable, flexible cord, equipment wire, and portable power cable.
  • Section 4 – Calculate the correct size for conductors using the Tables of the Code.
  • Section 6 – Describe general requirements for services, service equipment, and metering equipment to assure the integrity of the consumer's electrical installation and the safety of those who operate and maintain it.
  • Section 8 – Identify the requirements specifying ratings for electrical equipment supplying various types of circuit loads and demand factors for consumer services, feeders and branch circuits.
  • Section 10 – Identify the requirements for grounding, bonding and equipotential bonding to lessen the possibility and severity of electric shock and to prevent damage to property during a fault event.
  • Section 12 – Describe the wiring methods for installing the following kinds of electrical equipment – conductors, raceways, and cablebus.
  • Section 14 – Describe the requirements for using and installing protective devices and control devices.
  • Section 26 – Describe the requirements for the installation of general electrical equipment such as circuits, capacitors and transformers.
  • Section 28 – Identify the appropriate installation, wiring methods for conductors, and control of electric motors and generators.
  • Section 36- Identify the scope, key terminology, and warning-notice requirements that govern high-voltage installations over 750 V.
  • Section 36- Describe how Section 36 grounding, bonding, and protective-equipment rules keep touch and step voltages within tolerable limits.
  • Section 46 – Describe requirements for installation, operation and maintenance of emergency power supply and unit equipment.
