The recipient of this badge had demonstrated the following five core competencies and the related skills:

Ideation

  • This 90-minute workshop is focused on developing skills individuals can utilize through the ideation phase of their entrepreneurial journey. This includes how to emphasis and define user problems, create ideas for solving user problems. Participants learn how to become more fluent and creative at brainstorming, and understand the role creativity plays in ideation, and the role ideation plays in solving problems.

Persona

  • This 90-minute workshop is designed to provide participants with the skills to develop a profile of a product’s typical customer. The session will highlight how Personas are used to help a understand key traits, behaviors, goals, responsibilities, and needs of a specific type of user. Participants will also learn how to define, validate, and prioritize Personas for a product, service or problem.

Business Model Canvas

  • In these two 90-minute workshops participants will learn the key concepts of design thinking and business model thinking, acquire knowledge of the 9 building blocks of the Business Model Canvas for value creation, learn how to apply the Value Proposition Canvas to invent and improve value propositions based on specific customer segments, learn how to apply the Business Model Canvas to map out your current business model for understanding and analysis and gain basic knowledge of the Business Model design process.

Validation

  • This 90-minute workshop teaches the importance of validation and how to test assumptions and hypotheses about the problem, target market, and product. The session also will teach different ways to validate and how to utilize the Insights gained from the validation phase to iterate the product and find the right market fit. Participants will learn how validation connects the solution with viable prospects/stakeholders and paves the way to building meaningful products/solutions people want and need.

Pitch

  • This 90-minute workshop teaches participants what a pitch is and it’s importance; types and formats of pitches; important elements of a pitch; and what makes a pitch effective. Participants learn valuable tips for delivering compelling pitches. Participants will learn how to construct an Elevator Pitch and ways to improve your pitch presentation.

And they have demonstrated the above skills by completing the following:

  • Participants once they have completed all six workshops, they are able to utilize the elements of the workshops to pitch their idea and enter the Launch program within HELIX’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubator. Within the Incubator they will be assigned a HELIX Coach who will work with the participants to further develop and refine the learning of the six workshops as it pertains to the participant’s startup idea.
