Criteria

Learner has successfully completed a blended learning path designed to build awareness of Lean Thinking in a manufacturing environment.

Application of Learning

Using the kaizen methodology and the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) template, participants are expected to apply Lean Thinking to a real-world improvement opportunity within their lives today. Learners spend up to 8 hours of effort on their improvement projects. Successful completion of this hands-on project is validated by the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium.

Online Learning

The Learner has completed a series of six 30-60 minutes self-paced e-learning modules developed to increase awareness of the Lean Thinking tools and skills needed to be successful in the manufacturing sector. Topics included:

    • Defining Value Add and Non-value Add
    • The Eight Deadly Wastes
  • The Fundamentals of Lean
    • Takt Time
    • One-piece Flow
    • Standard Work
    • Pull Systems
  • Primary Tools of Lean
    • Setup Time Reduction
    • 5S – Workplace Organization
    • Visual Control
  • Value Stream Mapping
    • The basics of value stream mapping
    • Understanding where value and wastes are within a process
  • Kaizen
    • Defining Kaizen and how to incorporate every day changes and improvements
    • Kaizen events explained
  • Implementing Good Ideas
    • Plan, Do, Check Act problem solving method

About the MEC Program The Manufacturing Essentials Certification (MEC) Program is an initiative designed to build the confidence of the manufacturing workforce in Skills for Success such as problem solving, collaboration, communications, and leadership. Developed to support the manufacturing industry with increased productivity, improved workplace culture, higher employee engagement, and overall a more collaborative working environment.
