This microcredential equips individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to work in applied health fields such as behaviour therapy and social work. Developed in collaboration with Seneca Polytechnic and Autism Ontario, it provides a strong foundation for those currently in the field or looking to enter these professions. The microcredential prepares learners for roles such as behaviour technicians—professionals who implement behaviour plans, monitor and document behaviours, and provide direct support under the supervision of a certified behaviour analyst. Participants develop the ability to identify behavioural patterns, apply evidence-based strategies for behaviour modification, and foster a compassionate, supportive environment. Additionally, learners gain essential collaboration skills, an understanding of behaviour change principles, and proficiency in industry tools and technologies.

Criteria

The recipient of this microcredential has demonstrated the ability to:

Implement person-centred planning including considerations for building positive engagement in sessions and creating a supportive environment to build connections with colleagues and families.
Use principles that govern behaviour change (prompting, reinforcement, task analysis, shaping, etc.) in daily sessions and/or services with clients.
Demonstrate primary tasks highlighted in the official BACB task list which may be used to apply for credentials in jurisdictions outside of Ontario, Canada.
Use effective communication strategies to offer support, provide instructions, share ideas, and request clarification and mentorship from supervisors.
Demonstrate the four core principles of behaviour analytic services: benefiting others; treating clients with compassion, dignity, and respect; behaving with integrity; and ensuring your own competence.
Record data accurately to assist the behaviour analyst in understanding behaviours, identifying patterns, and developing effective strategies to be implemented in practice with clients.
Prepare materials and the environment to support assessments conducted by a behaviour analyst.
Identify the necessity to document and maintain a record of all client sessions as well as supervision sessions provided by the supervising behaviour analyst to meet provincial legislation requirements for ABA services.

The final performance-based task consists of case-based scenarios designed to evaluate participants' ability to apply the skills and competencies acquired throughout the microcredential. Additionally, successful completion requires 40 hours of synchronous training.

Learners complete a self-reflection in which they provide feedback on the course structure, learning activities, and the impact of the microcredential content on their future career or educational plans.
