Criteria

To earn this badge, learners must: ✅ Successfully complete the Sustainable Building Basics course ✅ Engage with an industry expert instructor throughout the course ✅ Pass module-specific knowledge assessments and a final comprehensive test

Learners must demonstrate understanding of the following modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Sustainability in Construction - Define sustainability and its relevance in the built environment across sectors - Understand the construction sector’s role in environmental and climate issues

Module 2: Overview of Green Building Certifications - Identify major certification systems (e.g., LEED, Passive House, Zero Carbon Building Standard) - Evaluate their purpose and applicability in different building scenarios

Module 3: Principles of Energy Efficiency in Buildings - Identify strategies for improving building performance in new builds and retrofits - Understand the role of systems, materials, and design in energy use

Module 4: Greenhouses – An Overlooked Ally in Canada’s Net-Zero Carbon Transition - Explain how greenhouses contribute to sustainable agriculture and climate resilience - Examine construction considerations for energy-efficient and low-carbon greenhouse systems

Module 5: Regional Approaches to Green Building in Canada - Analyze provincial and territorial case studies reflecting diverse policy and climate contexts - Understand how local innovations support national climate goals

Assessment includes: - 5 module-specific knowledge tests - 1 final comprehensive test covering all modules
