This badge recognizes successful completion of the Envelope Systems and Retrofitting course within the Green Building and Retrofitting Microcredential program. The earner has demonstrated foundational knowledge of building science and the ability to assess and upgrade building envelope systems to improve energy efficiency, durability, and climate resilience. The badge holder is equipped to apply retrofit strategies across residential, commercial, institutional, and agricultural buildings, and understands how to align retrofit practices with Canadian provincial and federal policies.

Assiniboine College has been providing exceptional learning experiences for 60 years. We are an accredited college with the Province of Manitoba.

We offer more than 70 unique certificate, diploma and advanced credential programs across a variety of disciplines including culinary arts and hospitality, business, agriculture and environment, health and human services, trades and technology. We also deliver apprenticeship programming in a range of skilled trade disciplines.

Our Victoria Avenue East campus (Centre for Adult Learning - Brandon) and North Hill campus (Len Evans Centre for Trades and Technology, Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts, and the Sustainable Greenhouse) are located in Brandon. Our Parkland campus, which also includes a Centre for Adult Learning, is located in Dauphin, Manitoba. At our Winnipeg campus, we deliver our Practical Nursing program and continuing studies courses. Assiniboine College continues to partner with dozens of communities and organizations across the province to deliver place-based education and training every year.

To earn this badge, learners must:

Complete all course modules, including:

Building Science Fundamentals: Air Movement and Barriers, Heat Flow and Thermal Control Moisture Management and Vapour Control Layers Low Carbon Envelope Upgrades: Insulation, Air Sealing, Windows and Doors Retrofitting Strategies for Residential Homes (pre-1960, 1960–1990, post-2000) Retrofit Strategies for Commercial, Institutional, and Agricultural Buildings Provincial and Federal Policies in Action from across Canada

Demonstrate competency through:

Quizzes assessing understanding of building envelope systems A final test of course content Achieve a minimum passing grade as defined by the program standards.
