What You’ll Learn

  1. Theories of rights and theories of discrimination

  2. The duty to accommodate in relation to gender, disability, religion/creed, family status and other human rights grounds

  3. The interplay between human rights legislation and other related legislative regimes

  4. How to address competing rights

  5. Strategic decision-making skills to resolve complaints through informal or formal processes

  6. Understand the role of human rights agencies (Commissions, Tribunals, Advocacy Centres) and the Courts

  7. How to identify and resolve ethical issues and issues of fairness in human rights matters

  8. What remedies are available, including damages and innovative solutions crafted by human rights tribunals

  9. Approaches for dealing with the aftermath of a human rights complaint

Assessment Criteria

In order to obtain the Certificate, the learner must:

  1. complete/attend all modules; and
  2. successfully complete an online assessment, obtaining at least 80%.

Estimated learning effort

Approximately 35 hours of learning effort, spread over multiple weeks.
