A Certified Training and Development Professional is a member of the Institute for Performance and Learning (I4PL) who has demonstrated mastery of the seven competency areas that make up the body of knowledge for workplace training professionals, known as the Competencies for Performance and Learning Professionals.

Criteria

Learning and development professionals with a minimum of four years of full-time experience as a workplace training professional involved in the design and/or delivery of training are eligible to apply for this certification. A Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) must demonstrate mastery of all seven competency areas in the body of knowledge for performance and learning professionals: The Competencies for Performance and Learning Professionals.

These competency areas are:

  1. Partnering with Clients
  2. Assessing Performance Needs
  3. Designing Learning Experiences
  4. Designing Curricula
  5. Supporting the Transfer of Learning
  6. Evaluating Learning
  7. Facilitating Learning

This path requires completion of a knowledge exam that covers the content of all seven core competency areas with 100 multiple-choice questions and candidates have five hours to complete. The passing grade is 70%.

The skill demonstration is the final component and consists of a work product submission in ONE of the following competency areas:

  • Assessing Performance Needs
  • Designing Learning
  • Facilitating Learning
