Learner worked with a team to identify a problem or opportunity within their organization and used problem solving methodology and tools to execute a Workplace Performance Project. This project demonstrates that the learner has gained the knowledge, tools, and confidence to manage future improvement opportunities. A learner's success on the Workplace Performance Project is confirmed and approved by their employer, which requires that the project added value for the employer and that a learner would be able to apply their learning on future projects. \n\n**Course Content **\n\n- Problem Solving and Critical Thinking\n- Process Improvement\n- Project Leadership\n- PDCA – Plan, Do, Check, Act\n- A3 Problem Solving Template\n- Process Mapping and Value Stream Mapping\n- Collection of Data and Analysis of Metrics \n- Root Cause Analysis using 5 Why and Fishbone Diagram\n\n**Learning Outcomes**\n\n- Understand the importance of having process for problem solving\n- Application practice for A3 problem solving process\n- Review of Lean Thinking and identifying process waste\n- Gain knowledge and practice of:\n     - SIPOC analysis\n     - Process mapping\n     - Fishbone (Cause & Effect) Diagram\n     - 5-Why process\n     - Process measurement & Data analysis\n- How to develop solutions and choose which to implement\n- Validation of improvement effectiveness\n- Presentation development and delivery skills\n\n**Minimum requirements**\n\n- Completed and presented Workplace Performance Project\n- Actively participated in facilitated training sessions \n- Demonstrated understanding of course content during discussion-based learning\n- Employer confirmed that they are confident that the learner would be able to apply their learning on future projects and within the workplace.\n\n**Estimated effort time**\n60 – 70 hours\n\n**About the MEC Program**\n\nThe Manufacturing Essentials Certification (MEC) Program is an initiative designed to build the skills and confidence of the manufacturing workforce using a Skills for Success framework, including key skills such as problem solving, innovation, collaboration, and communication.
