Learners spend up to 8 hours of effort on their improvement projects. Successful completion of this hands-on project is validated by the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium. \n\n**Online Learning **\n\nThe Learner has completed a series of six 30-60 minutes self-paced e-learning modules developed to increase awareness of the Lean Thinking tools and skills needed to be successful in the manufacturing sector. Topics included: \n\n- **_Introduction to Lean Thinking_**\n    - Defining Value Add and Non-value Add\n    - The Eight Deadly Wastes\n- **_The Fundamentals of Lean_**\n    - Takt Time \n    - One-piece Flow \n    - Standard Work \n    - Pull Systems \n- **_Primary Tools of Lean_**\n    - Setup Time Reduction \n    - 5S – Workplace Organization \n    - Visual Control \n- _**Value Stream Mapping**_\n    - The basics of value stream mapping \n    - Understanding where value and wastes are within a process \n- _**Kaizen**_\n    - Defining Kaizen and how to incorporate every day changes and improvements \n    - Kaizen events explained \n- **_Implementing Good Ideas_**\n    - Plan, Do, Check Act problem solving method \n\nEstimated effort time \n\n8 - 16 hours \n\n\nAbout the MEC Program\nThe Manufacturing Essentials Certification (MEC) Program is an initiative designed to build the confidence of the manufacturing workforce in Skills for Success such as problem solving, collaboration, communications, and leadership. Developed to support the manufacturing industry with increased productivity, improved workplace culture, higher employee engagement, and overall a more collaborative working environment.\n\nEMC updates learning content on a regular basis.
